Redistribution of the Inner Part

Goal:

Reassign inner voices (e.g., the alto line) between hands to facilitate smoother, more legato playing.

Instructions:

• Watch the demonstration video.

  • • Observe how the alto voice is occasionally played by the left hand, allowing better legato and independence between all voices.

• Select the following stops on your organ: 

  • • Great: Diapason 8 (Principal 8) and Octave 4 (Prestant 4) 

• Follow the fingerings.

  • • Use the provided finger numbers and redistribution markings carefully—they are essential for smooth, fluid motion.

• Keep it legato.

  • • Maintain a connected sound even when transferring notes between hands.

• Maintain independence of line.

  • • When both hands are played together, independence between both voices becomes critical. Observe that the red markings in the score indicate independence challenges between the two voices.

• Hand position:

  • • Keep fingers curved and relaxed to avoid tension and promote control.

• Practice slowly.

  • • Break the exercise into small segments if needed. Focus on mastering the redistribution and finger coordination in each section.

• Use a metronome.

  • • Maintain a steady tempo. Only increase speed when you can play cleanly and confidently.

Daily Practice Recommendation:

• Practice for 5 minutes each day. Consistent, mindful repetition will develop muscle memory and musical sensitivity.
