Redistribution of the Inner Part
Lesson 5
Lesson 5
Goal:
Reassign inner voices (e.g., the alto line) between hands to facilitate smoother, more legato playing.
Instructions:
Watch the demonstration video.
Observe how the alto voice is occasionally played by the left hand, allowing better legato and independence between all voices.
Select the following stops on your organ:
Great: Diapason 8 (Principal 8) and Octave 4 (Prestant 4)
Follow the fingerings.
Use the provided finger numbers and redistribution markings carefully—they are essential for smooth, fluid motion.
Keep it legato.
Maintain a connected sound even when transferring notes between hands.
Maintain independence of line.
When both hands are played together, independence between both voices becomes critical. Observe that the red markings in the score indicate independence challenges between the two voices.
Hand position:
Keep fingers curved and relaxed to avoid tension and promote control.
Practice slowly.
Break the exercise into small segments if needed. Focus on mastering the redistribution and finger coordination in each section.
Use a metronome.
Maintain a steady tempo. Only increase speed when you can play cleanly and confidently.
Daily Practice Recommendation:
Practice for 5 minutes each day. Consistent, mindful repetition will develop muscle memory and musical sensitivity.
