Fire Damage 2011

History of Bazore Mill by Brenda Krekeler (written 1988 - 1989)

This mill site was established in 1813 by David Yates. The present mill building was built in 1849. In 1885, William Bazore bought the mill, remodeled it and implemented new milling equipment that increased the mill's production by 100%. In 1885, a 2-story addition was constructed on the north side of the mill. The Bazore Mill suffered severe damage from the 1913 Flood. Subsequently, the mill was sold to John Jones. The Jones Family operated the mill into the 1960's. This mill functioned, serving the local community for 156 years.

Today the mill stands 2 1/2 stories tall on Deer Creek with a dark red asphalt shingled roof. The exterior is covered with almond vinyl siding and the many windows are all 6 over 6 double-hung. The Bazore Mill is presently owned by the Robert Ely Family. They purchased the mill in 1977 and have since restored the building and have made it their home and antique shop. It now exhibits a red steel waterwheel that is used to grind meal in the basement level. The Ely's intend to restore the millrace that is 1 3/4 miles long. (Ely; Recchie).
