Barbara Weller Windmill

Orleans, Massuchusetts

Windmill is attached to a Bed and Breakfast

The interior of the windmill displays the bullwheel, pinion gear, drive shaft and mill stone.

The Barbara Weller Windmill has been incorporated into an adjoining building and the combination forms a bed and breakfast for one family. This exterior photograph depicts the cottage, mill and the view of the ocean. The day I took this photograph was overcast and really doesn't show just what a spectacular location and view this mill has. The exterior of the mill is perfect. It's octaganal structure is covered with weathered, wooden shingles. The mast is in place as well as the tail pole.

The Tale Pole and Four Masts are in Place

We visited Barbara Weller's Windmill twice.

This being the second time, we found ourselves in a matter of minutes, being swept into a storm from the ocean.

This perspective shows the mast facing the ocean side.

The small cottage is used as a bed and breakfast.

The millstone display in the yard is enormous.

The above mill stone is the large object displayed in this photograph.in front of the cottage. Isn't it unbelievable just how large it is? This perspective of the mill is nice because you can see the pitch of the cap (roof) and the mast and windshaft. This windmill has been restored and maintained. Some windows have been added to make the area inside the mill part of the cottage.

Stormy Skies

The fog rolled in quickly. It appeared as if it were late evening but it was actually early afternoon.

Here you can appreciate the enormous mill stone, the four arms of the masts, the windmill cap and the tail pole.

The interior of the mill shows the main drive shaft, cogs, gears and windshaft.

In the middle of the windmill stucture you can see the millstone and the drive shaft.

The interior of the mill has been preserved with this mill stone in place as well as other artifacts.

The interior structure of the mill has beautifully preserved wooden floors and walls.
