Old Mills Now

by Brenda Krekeler

Hello, My name is Brenda Krekeler. I have an MA in geography and a BA in econimics from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. I taught college geography for over 25 years.

Since the begining of my education I have researched and written about historical aspects of our American history. I have written several books on historical landmarks and buildings and have maintained websites since the early 1990's. My continued research includes the following: covered bridges, canals, grist mills and windmills. This website exemplifies my research of old mills from 1987 to present.

I have always enjoyed photography. As such, you will find examples of our historic old mills identified in photographs. My husband, Michael, taught me how historic mills functioned back in the early 1800's. On this website, "OldMillsNow.com" I have included over 57 old mills in Ohio, 11 old mills in Indiana, 9 in Illinois, 8 in Michigan, 1 in Wisconsin, 8 in Virginia, 3 grist mills on Cape Cod and 18 windmills on Cape Cod. We continue to visit our historic old mills periodically and as a consequence we have gotten to know the owners, millers, carpenters and mechanics who work on the mills.

Where other historians have written articles for me or have shared their photographs for this website, their names are so indicated. I always appreciate everyone's hard work, dedication and willingness to share their work for us to enjoy. I am also grateful for all of the mill owners and volunteers who have given me time and education regarding the history of their specific mill. I have tried to incorporate all of their generous time and knowledge into the histories I have included in each of our mills.

You will also be able to find the address for each mill as well as a link to Google Maps. I hope that you will enjoy "OldMillsNow.com" and that you will be able to explore the individual mills and have great adventures. Please feel free to email the "link to author." I will be happy to respond. Thank you for your historic endeavors.
