Well-maintained, Beautiful Iron Bridge

The Thomas J. Malone Bridge is presently located in the Beaver Creek State Park east of State Route 7 in St. Clair Township. Built in 1870, it is 42 feet long and has a multiple kingpost truss. The Malone Bridge originally spanned Middle Run Creek on State Route 154 between Lisbon and Elkton. The bridge was moved twice by the Elkton Township Trustees and converted it into a storage shed. Thomas J. Malone, a covered bridge researcher, discovered the converted bridge on Pine Hollow Road and recovered it. The restoration of the bridge was finished in 1971 and now has a shingled roof and dark brown, stained-wood siding. It sits beside Gaston’s Mill on cut stone abutments.

Beaver Creek State Park is an interesting, historically restored area, worthy of a visit. It boasts of a restored mill, the covered bridge, a 1909 iron bridge and a restored, scenic canal and lock. (Donovan, 1980; Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce; Ohio DOT; SOCBA)
