Revision 5.1 - May 2026
For a traffic stop to be initiated lawfully, you must have reasonable suspicion that an occupant of the vehicle is in violation of the law, which occurred prior to the stop (i.e. speeding, illegally transporting a firearm)
Initiate the stop in regards to Law 3.6 Right to Stop and Detain by turning on your emergency lights (Shift) and pulling behind the vehicle you wish to pull over.
It is also important to try and use sounds to get the attention of the driver. Turn your siren on and off (Q), or make use of your notification sound (C).
Optional: Some officers may also choose to use “Speakers” (bind “<Key>” “say /y Please pull your vehicle to over in the next available parking area!”).
Before initiating a traffic stop, you must identify a safe location to pull over the vehicle, which is somewhere like the side of a residential or forest road, car park, breakdown zone, etc, you must not be pulling people over on the highway with fast-moving traffic.
Once the vehicle being pulled over stops, turn your vehicle towards traffic (If you get hit from behind this will help protect you and turn the vehicle outwardly)
Keep your engine on (this is in case the suspect runs and you need to leave quickly).
Upon pulling over the vehicle notify dispatch or officers on duty of the traffic stop with the Police Computer by using the Traffic Stop (ANPR) option.
If unable to do so you may use your voice radio. Do not interrupt other officers, wait your turn to speak.
Inform radio that you are performing an “11-95” (Traffic stop) and add the following: Your call sign, the color of the vehicle, the make and model of the vehicle, the number of occupants inside, and your location.
If you need backup ask dispatch for the number of additional units you require.
