Pain - Send email to oral surgeon, give patient option to go to ER and give Appt ASAP for follow up with Oral Surgery
Swelling - Swelling the first 72 hours is normal. If patient is concerned, have them come in for follow up. (started within 12 hours after surgery)
Swelling(1 week post op) - Call Oral Surgeon and go to ER
Skin Rash - Stop all medications. If patient is experiencing shortness of breath or swelling go to ER or inform OS.
Swelling(due to meds) - Stop all medications and go to ER as well as inform OS
Difficulty breathing and/or Swallowing - Go to ER ASAP
Bleeding - If excessive bleeding send patient to ER
Numbness of Chin/Lip - Have patient come in for follow up
Nausea/Vomiting - Stop meds, eat plain yogurt. Give patient option to go to ER. Come in for next day follow up if doesn’t resolve.
Chest Pain - Go to ER ASAP
For After Hours Only:
Pain at Random times and at night, fever, swelling- GO TO ER
Pain while chewing, brushing-TAKE IBUPROFEN, MAKE APPT
Trauma- GO TO ER

Severe Pain-cannot eat, sharp pain, waking up in the middle of the night

Unable to get bleeding to stop
Trauma(teeth avulsion, intrusion)

Spacer or crown fell out

Swelling- Go to ER, and make appointment with GD
Pain with no swelling- make appointment, if unbearable go to ER
Can’t breath- Go to the ER
Chest pain - go to ER
Rash-Stop med GIVEN BY DENTIST make appointment
Broken tooth/denture/crown ETC-make appointment
Swelling- Go to ER, and make appointment with Ortho
Pain with no swelling- make appointment, if unbearable go to ER ( Please see note below ~
Can’t breath- Go to ER
Chest pain- go to ER
Broken Bracket - NOT AN EMERGENCY-make appointment if one is not scheduled, otherwise can be repaired at next visit make sure it is scheduled correctly
Activation Broke- Schedule appt, can be seen at another offices as an ER (contact Christina)
Trauma/ car accident,fell on face- Go to ER, should be advised to schedule apt with GD and after GD apt with Ortho
RPE broken,loose,swelling, Pain( see not below about pain prior to advising to stop turning)- STOP TURNING, Schedule apt ASAP, ( Call Christina if needed)
(patients may experience pain and pressure the first 10 days after RPE is placed, this is common, take IBUPROFEN, if it does not help stop turning and schedule apt with Doctor)
Wire poking- Advice to use wax, my be scheduled to clip wire ONLY, not an emergency, (Wires will become longer as teeth move, this is common)
~Patients can experience some sores in mouth due to brackets and wires, patients mouth will get use to the appliances, it will take a little, Warm salt water rinses 3 times a day can help, and also use wax, wax can be purchased at any drug store and sometimes grocery stores in the tooth brush isle. They will also experience pressure sometimes patients refer to this as pain, after an adjustment AKA AWS, a bonding, activation, they should eat softer foods and use TYLENOL or IBUPROFEN as needed (NOT AN EMERGENCY) Typically can take 10 days to get use to
