On March 17th, 2023, the games began. Thousands of people gathered in State Farm Stadium, waiting with bated breath. Taylor Swift majestically emerged on stage as lyrics stating, “it’s been a long time coming” filled the stadium. Taylor Swift has done it again.
As a genre that was founded on the basis of individual expression, jazz music has been commended for its historical fights against social issues and for pushing boundaries. However, there has been little room for women within that narrative.
When asked how the calendar appears while visualized in their mind, most will say that they see evenly sized boxes representing the months laid out with smaller boxes inside to represent the days.
Taylor Swift doesn’t sleep. She is simply too busy being a mastermind. After the clock struck midnight on October 21st, 2022, Swifties eagerly opened the long-anticipated Midnights album: thirteen songs described by Swift as a “collection of music written in the middle of the night.”
Many students, including myself, feel small and helpless when it comes to the globally collaborative task of avoiding environmental catastrophe. Beloved A.P. Environmental Science teacher Mrs. Kleinman gives her two cents on how students can best cope with the enormity of this problem and still remain focused on making a difference. She strives for a progress not perfection model, meaning: “Live your life everyday doing something that brings us closer to us all doing the right thing. Each person and decision is cumulative. Sometimes just take a step back from the big global disaster viewpoint and just go towards all the things that you do in your life that make a positive impact."
With college acceptances ringing in for the senior class and applications opening for juniors, many students are choosing where they want to go to school. As the experience may seem daunting, an important factor that is often overlooked is a school’s sustainability practices. Increasingly, college and university campuses are embracing sustainability as it improves the quality of life on campus. According to Chris Adam, Coordinator of Sustainable Campuses at Dawson College, “A sustainable campus is one that has achieved a reduction of its ecological footprint well beyond standards and has done so with an institutional ethos that advocates for justice, peace, respect and action to protect the integrity of natural systems and demonstrates an open willingness to share this information beyond its own walls, wherever it’s needed”. This allows schools to create their own individual path for achieving sustainability and allow for their students to feel protected while conserving resources for future generations.
