Have you ever been to the Saks Fifth Avenue light show? The luxury store has been holding their annual light show every holiday season since 2004; yet this year, which marks the 100th anniversary of the store’s opening, it has been canceled.
Saks Fifth Avenue is an American luxury department store especially known for their high end fashion. There are about 100 stores throughout the US and Canada. This spectacular display of lights along the side of the building facing Fifth Avenue draws hundreds of thousands of people every year. This year, the light show will not be held due to budget cuts. While the show is not taking place this year, it does not mean the tradition is over.
Though news of the show being canceled is very upsetting for many, the great city of New York has many more festive opportunities to get you in the holiday spirit. At Rockefeller Center, the annual tradition of the lighting of the Christmas Tree continues, and the ice skating rink, a fan favorite, remains open (make your reservation!). The windows at Macy’s will be decorated, as will the famed shops of Fifth Avenue. The city also provides holiday markets in Union Square and Bryant Park, as well as the Radio City Rockettes, who perform all throughout the holiday season. Don’t let the news of the canceled light show keep you from enjoying the most magical time of the year.
