Redhawk fall athlete of the season and three time state champion, Cornelia Fox, has had an unbelievable high school swimming career. We commend her for her hard work and dedication to Nyack.
Fox will swim at the University of Southern California in the fall of 2024 where she’ll set her sights on her next athletic and academic accomplishments.
Fox said of her state championship, "I'm thrilled with my success this weekend. They are vastly different events so coming out with these wins make me feel confident in the training I've done so far this year. I was definitely nervous going into the race knowing the competition was tougher this year, I just tried to focus on myself and stay in my own zone, which made a difference. It makes me excited for what's to come for the rest of my USA club swim season." With a record like hers there’s no doubt she’ll continue to achieve both in and out of the pool.
On Saturday, November 18, Fox competed in the final round of the NYSPHSAA championships - and blew the competition away. She swam the 200 individual medley and 100 free earning first place in both events, with her 200 medley time reaching an all-American level.
2023 is not the first time Fox has competed at the state level. She also dominated the competition as a junior in 2022 where she placed first in the 100-yard freestyle and tied for third in the 50 free.
Fox's grit as a competitor is remarkable. Her commitment and support as a teammate is noteworthy. The energy and enthusiasm Fox brought to the Nyack Swim team and Nyack athletics as a whole will be missed. We wish her all the best for her journey at USC.
Cornelia wasn’t the only Fox to represent Nyack at the state level. Her sister, Alex Fox, also competed for swimming in the 500 free, placing 8th. Don’t sleep on Alex! And Nyack runner, Sam Gunther, placed 14th at the NYSPHSAA Championship cross country meet. Can’t wait to see what Sam will accomplish his senior year. What an outstanding season it has been for Nyack athletics!
