Welcome back, Nyack! The start of the new school year has brought us a lot to adjust to: crowded hallways, congested parking lots and, for some of us, learning in a classroom for the first time in over a year. It can be difficult to navigate the changes that accompany a fresh school year, especially after our learning experience was so radically disrupted last year. Even still, this autumn holds promise.
Fall sports are in full swing, and we have a new addition to the Nyack family: Hook the Redhawk! Our new mascot made its first appearance earlier this year, hyping up the crowd and showing support for Nyack’s football team. Hook hasn’t been the only one showing some school pride recently… Spirit week kicked off on October 12th with “Twin Tuesday,” followed by “Favorite Sports Team Day,” “Throwback Thursday,” and “Color Wars." We wrapped up the week of festivities with a pep rally Friday afternoon and our homecoming football game later that night. A week later, Nyack held a festive homecoming dance the tennis courts.
That was just the beginning. On Thursday, art students headed into town for Nyack’s annual Halloween Window Painting, so make sure to check out the spoooooky designs on Nyack’s shop windows! And in November, the Drama Club will perform their rendition of William Inge’s Picnic! Tickets are available now and can be purchased up to sixty minutes before curtain.
As always, try to make the most of your high school experience. This time of year can be stressful, so we encourage you to practice mindfulness in whatever ways you can. Spend time with people you love, get the sleep you need, and try to stay on top of your to-do list. And of course, Go Redhawks!
