”The pandemic has definitely taught me to be more appreciative of simple things. I never thought I'd be so happy to return to school. I’m thrilled to see my friends everyday, play with the orchestra again, and rejoin the swim team as junior co-captain.
Nyack has given me numerous opportunities. When I moved to NY in fifth grade, I was surprised to hear that my new school had an orchestra as my previous Catholic school couldn’t afford to provide music programs. I had always wished to play the violin. Ms. Winze introduced me to the cello as the orchestra was in need of celists. I’ve been a cello player ever since and I’m honored to be a member of the high school chamber orchestra. Playing an instrument balances my daily routine and helps relieve stress.
However, it also revealed the extent of my privilege. I would love to work towards giving less fortunate students the same opportunities I've been given and pay it forward.”

“When I joined the XCTF team I didn’t really have too many friends or activities, COVID was still going strong, and I took that as an excuse to cut corners and take the easy way out. Working through adversity, pushing myself to be a stronger athlete, and watching others improve and work alongside me creates an unbreakable bond. Spending time with people every day like that forges you into a family.”
