Just like that, another school year has come to an end. It seems like just yesterday we were still waiting for the teacher to start up the Zoom meeting. Despite all the craziness of school, we did it! From waking up early in the mornings, to dealing with the overcrowded hallways, to taking test after test, we are finally done.
After going through four years of high school, I have a lot of tips, advice, and perhaps some shortcuts for the freshmen, or anyone in high school. There is so much that I wish I had known going into freshman year and throughout high school.
Freshman year is no joke; you’re the babies of the high school. The jump from middle school to high school is big, and now Covid has made it huge. As freshmen, you experience anxiety and pure confusion, but you’re definitely not alone. All the other freshmen are feeling the same way.
As everyone says, high school does goes by in the blink of an eye, but up until recently, I didn’t think that was true. High school actually goes by even faster than a blink of an eye. Make sure to work hard, but also have fun at the same time. As the saying goes, high school will either be the best or worst time of your life. It is up to you to make the best out of it.
Make sure to stay organized, do your homework, and ask questions! There is no such thing as a stupid question. Well, maybe sometimes, but still ask! Make sure to join a lot of clubs and sports to figure out what you like best. It’s the best time to try new things; get out of your comfort zone and you’d be surprised at how much you end up liking some things.
My biggest piece of advice is to stay on top of your schoolwork. Don't be afraid of asking for help, and of course, have fun. Make sure to balance everything on your plate. Have some time to do schoolwork, some time for studying, some time for yourself, and just some time for you to have fun!
I promise that you all will be okay. You’ll get through it! Everyone, not just the freshmen, will get through it.
Have a fantastic summer, Redhawks, and we’ll see you in September!!
