The holiday season can be a magical time filled with hot chocolate, frosty windows, and cozy red scarves (wink). As we wrap up Hanukkah and welcome the Christmas spirit with open arms, it’s not hard to find joy and wonder in the world around us.
But winter can be a stressful time, too. Classes are beginning to pick up speed and many of us find ourselves with what can feel like an unbearable amount of schoolwork. Looming midterm exams add an extra element of stress to the second quarter, and athletes have jumped headfirst into the winter sports season.
It’s more important now than ever to prioritize mental and physical health. The combination of more relaxed mask mandates and colder weather has revitalized the good old-fashioned common cold, so keep your immune system strong by heading to bed early, drinking plenty of water, and eating enough nutritious food to fuel your body, mind, and soul.
One of the most effective ways to find peace during the often dismal winter months is by channeling the energy of America’s most iconic heroes: Frog and Toad. In Arnold Lobel’s Frog and Toad All Year he writes, “Frog and Toad were caught in the rain. They ran to Frog’s house.
'I am all wet,' said Toad. 'The day is spoiled.'
'Have some tea and cake,' said Frog. 'The rain will stop. If you stand near the stove, your clothes will soon be dry.’”
Enjoy the little things in life, Redhawks. The rain will stop.
