Broadway may still be closed, but the Nyack High School Auditorium was open for one night only, Friday, May 21, for the opening night of Nyack Drama Club’s Urinetown the Musical! What is Urinetown, you ask? Well, Urinetown the place is a future dystopia where people can’t pee for free because almost all the water in the world has dried up, so an evil dictator has taken over and is rationing the water to the poor at his will. However, Urinetown the MUSICAL is full of revolution, rebellion, romance, and, of course, an excessive amount of dancing and singing high schoolers.
But Urinetown meant a lot more to the Drama Club than just any show because it marked what could be a reopening of theater for all of us. As you may not know, last year the Drama Club’s production, Hello Dolly, was canceled the day before opening night due to the pandemic, so being able to perform this show for a live audience was a sign of hope for everyone on stage as well as in the audience. Although there was only a limited audience allowed in the theater, the performance was also professionally filmed, and will be made available to the public very soon! The drama club encourages you to take a look at Urinetown if you have a chance, and enjoy a night of laughs, love, and… pee.
