Bustling, like a New York fever dream. Filled with many people; from friends to families. The aroma of authentic Chinese food filled the air. Waiters and waitresses rushed to the tables, with little carts, catering to the people’s needs. We too, would receive the honor of experiencing Dim Sum.
Dim Sum is a Chinese style, ready to serve breakfast. Unfortunately due to my cultural differences, I wasn’t able to indulge in many of the foods as my peers. Many of these foods consisted of pork; however they also did include seafood! Seafood in the morning might sound nauseating to some, yet the delicacy of the food deemed otherwise.
Foods ranged from shrimp dumplings to beef rice noodles. Alongside the fried pork meals and steamed buns, there was also sweet delicacies such as the pineapple bun.
The fried shrimp dumpling: The shrimp were deeply fried enough to crunch and taste every spice and flavor of the shrimp and fried bread encrusting the shrimp. A food to me that I could eat as if it were chips.
The beef rice noodle roll: Overall the best meal at the table. The flavoring of the noodle reminded me a bit of my African background, giving me a sense of nostalgia of the foods I would eat when I was younger with my cousins. The noodles were soft, a bit slippery for an amateur with chopsticks, Then soy sauce was prominent, yet it was not too salty. The minced beef was soft and delicate, filling the rice noodles.
The pineapple bun: My taste buds do not have a spot for sweet foods, however the pineapple bun showed me a new side of the desert world. The pineapple bun was extremely soft, so soft you could rip it open, eat one half and save the other for later. Contrary to the name, this bun does not contain any pineapple! It merely looks like one, it’s simply a sweet bun filled with egg and sugar. Completely ignoring my natural instincts to avoid the sweet food, I decided to give the pineapple bun a try! It was dominating with sweetness, it was unavoidable, yet worth it at the same time. Yet, one was enough for me, too many would be a bit too filling.
Overall, the restaurant service was amazing, quickly and efficiently, the food was delivered. Waiters catered to every customers need, ensuring that everyone got a bite of one thing at the table. The cultural difference in food threw me off a bit, since my meals usually consist of Mediterranean and African spices. However, due to the great service of the restaurant prompts me to try dim sum once again, maybe finally mustering up the courage to try the chicken feet. Dim sum is a breakfast rush, in which mainly seafood and pork lovers would adore, as well as for a sweet tooth.
