Although many yearn for power, few obtain it, and it has proven to be incredibly dangerous. Authority, influence, and connections can advance a man’s social status to the point where it can invalidate others’ self worth completely. Those beneath the power can feel as though they amount to nothing and that they have miniscule control over their lives. The life of Jeffrey Epstein proves that immense power does not always translate to good fortune, and those who seem lucky might not have it all.
Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier so wealthy that he lived on his personal, private island in the Caribbean. With hardly any supervision, Epstein could, essentially, do whatever he pleased. Having realized this early on, Epstein surely took advantage of this, using his freedom for evil, only to please himself. With the assistance of his wife Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein recruited underage girls to “massage” him. What started as a massage led to unconsentual sexual activity between himself and the girls. Most of his victims returned to him not just for the monetary reward, but also for the validation he gave. His 36 known victims’ already vulnerable state made them perfect for him because their self worth became dependent on his master manipulation.
In 2006, Epstein was accused of procuring a minor for prostitution. But, due to his power and connections, was able to leave numerous times during his thirteen month jail sentence for work duties. He was released on bail and was restricted to house arrest for a year following his release. Continuing his illegal, dehumanizing behavior, he was caught a second time in 2019. This time, his sex trafficking led him to be held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. Supposed to be under guard suicide watch at all times, Epstein managed to commit suicide by hanging in prison.
Epstein’s suicide raises a multitude of suspicions because of the quantity of Americans that hated him. His pure malice affected his victims for an extended period of time, an excellent motive for his murder. Even if his death wasn’t by one of his victims, many can sympathize with them, making him very likely to be killed.
Epstein’s prosperity has managed to resolve his previous difficult situations. With that type of power and his connections, he had no reason to kill himself. On top of that, he was proven to be a narcissist, making him even less likely to commit suicide. When asked if he had suicidal thoughts days before his death, he denied all accusatons.
Leading a life of privacy and mystery, it only seems fitting that Jeffrey Epstein’s death is also a conspiracy. Though the extent of Epstein’s power allowed him to pursue his disgraceful intentions for years, his pleasure came to an end, proving that karma can affect even the most powerful of people.
