“Qu’est-ce que c’est que ça?” For those unfamiliar with the french language this bowl of word salad essentially translates to, “What is it that it is, is that?” Now it would be easy to list off reasons Mr.Nauss is an amazing teacher, however anyone who has ever had him knows that doing this would take far too long. What makes Mr.Nauss the best is not simply that he makes class fun, it's because he is always introducing new and innovative ways to learn. I mean can you really think of a better way to review vocabulary than to play a game using fly swatters? In fact i’ll wait while you try to think of a better teacher, who would let you turn a small group project into a big class movie and then have a class viewing party with crepes. These are just small examples of who Mr.Nauss is. He is also a caring person who is always willing to spend extra time, if you don't understand anything.
To further prove this point I should mention that french has never been my strong suit and that may even be an exaggeration of my ability. So for someone like me who is severely lacking in the skill department for his subject to adore his teaching it is quite obvious how great he is.
One of my favorite moments from his class has to be the end of the year project we did last year. You see all year every long block we would watch a show called extra. Extra is basically a french version of Friends but not as good. So instead of taking a final test, we were supposed to split up into groups and create a final episode for the show. This was a class of about 12 students so there would have been enough to work in small groups. Our class had a different idea though, we were able to convince Mr.Nauss to let the whole class work together to create a bigger version of the project. He was excited to see our work and for our last class we were able to have a viewing party with crepes.
To get back to my original point regarding qu’est-ce que c’est que ça, I mean what actually is it that it is, is that? Well to answer my own question, it is Mr.Nauss. His caring and outgoing teaching style makes the classroom a fun place to be. Not to mention the irony that his favorite quote would help to describe him so well.
Now I am aware that everyone has their own Mr.Nauss, however I implore you to always wonder qu’est-ce que c’est que ça.
