Ms. Holland… A name that seems as if it came from a dream. We will never forget her English class. She made it so much better with her quirky and fun-loving personality. Her daily brain teasers were something that always brought light to our day. Not only were the brain teasers something we looked forward to, but also the class in general.
Audrey: I remember on my first day of sophomore year, Ms. Holland scared me. It was only because she said that if she did not know our names by the end of the first quarter, she would fail us. I made it my mission to be remembered by her but little did I know, I would be the one remembering her and her class. On the days I was absent, I would email Ms. Holland so I wouldn’t fall behind. I wanted to make sure that she knew that her class mattered to me.
Ms. Holland has brought many great memories to my sophomore year. Walking into my senior year and seeing her in the hallway always makes my day so much better. I am so glad to have such a positive relationship with a teacher.
Priscilla: I remember in class one day, we were reading a Sherlock Holmes story. My seat was in the back and I usually never participated. But if I ever was called on, I never minded. I remember Ms. Holland called on me to read. I was trying not to act as awkward as I felt. I started to read, as usual, nothing was different. The only thing I found strange was that she didn’t call on anyone else to read for the rest of the class. I continued reading until class was over. In reality, I actually really enjoy reading, but I’m not a huge fan of participating. But again, I didn’t mind. After the bell rang and the class ended, I realized I read more than anyone else who read that day. Especially since before she called on me, she stopped other students and chose someone else to read. I didn’t think much of it, but I did know that I was known to be a really fast reader, so I thought maybe I read too fast and she didn’t say anything about it.
The next day when I went to class and everyone sat down, she told us to bring out the story we were reading the day before. As I did, she said to the class that I did an excellent job and read not only quickly but accurately. I was really glad that Ms. Holland thought I did a great job. After that, I enjoyed reading even more. Ms. Holland is so encouraging and has such a positive influence on all her students, so I was glad to have her as a teacher. During my sophomore year, her class was the one I was most excited to go to because of her.
Because of Ms. Holland, every day in her class was entertaining and so much fun. She would tell us funny stories about herself and give us random questions to answer. We are so grateful that we had Ms. Holland as a teacher before she became the assistant principal of teaching and learning.
