Of all the inventions our civilization has created, the republic is perhaps the most unique and our greatest success. At the very same time, however, it is also our greatest failure. The Republic was created for the people, but now it is abused only to serve the interests of a few. The Republic is broken, this is undeniably true; the history of violence in the Republic goes back a long way, ever since the murder of Tiberius Gracchus our institution has been plagued by this terrible spector, and some may say we must fix this institution, but it is beyond repair; other men have tried and have failed.
Our own soldiers, the very men who expand the glory of Rome and are responsible for bringing us much of the material wealth we have now, come home to their farms and homes gobbled up by their wealtier neighbors; the neighbors who also control the Republic and refuse to create laws for anyone’s benefit than their own. These men stake their chances in the city and often lose it all, they create a burden on everyone’s prosperity and our lawmaker’s do nothing to assist them.
We need change, we need Caesar. We need only look at his Gallic campaign to see how capable of a leader Caesar is, in battle after battle he has proved his tactical genius and in his negotiations with those people he has proven his diplomatic capabilities. His writings and speeches also prove how capable of an orator he is. It should be clear that Caesar is a capable and skilled man, but more than anything else he cares. Caesar wants to fix what’s wrong with our nation, he wants to help the people; because the Republic won’t and Caesar can, so he will.
