On the 30th January 2024, Swindon Town Football Club were charge with failing to pay HMRC on time and also failing to pay an unnamed football club (Notts County) for match day tickets. The club had failed to pay the 3 payments (debt) totalling over 5 figures for an average of 9 days. They received a 1 transfer window embargo restriction (unable to pay for transfers or loans) with a further 2 more suspended for 2 years. The original charge in November 2023 consisted of a 3 transfer window embargo restriction (unable to pay for transfers or loans). The club were aware that they wouldn't get away with it and that they would be receiving at least 1 transfer window embargo, if not 2. But they still told fans that the club had a healthy transfer budget for the January 2024 transfer window. This was a lie.
