“Mortui vivos docent.” (“The dead teach the living.”)
Brought together through the dissolution of a corrupt faction and a love for the supernatural, Postmortem is a recently established Inquisitor ring focusing on the paranormal. They exist to open up a line of communication between the dead and the living, to bridge the gap between what is known and what is not. Hauntings, possessions, creatures that go bump in the night and everything in between is their bread and butter, delighting in the pursuit of the unknown. Though their interests are largely self-motivated, they frequently work with clients seeking their expertise from exorcisms to investigations. Their services are available to both the mundane and the uncanny, though their shared histories predispose them towards the Symphony itself. While they try to steer away from most conflicts, the group is tight-knit and will fight back when any of their members are threatened. Postmortem has had their fill of being taken advantage of, and the days that they stood for it are as gone as the entity who last did.

Damian Nathaniel Hestall was born in Seattle and has lived in the rainy city most of his life, belonging to an established old money dynasty and currently directing the corporation they spawned. Since young, he took interest in the supernatural, the strange and the occult, trying to find the hidden truths behind the myths and stories he devoured with relentless curiosity. Now, a pactholder well aware of the vastness of the supernatural world and no longer shackled to the Midnight Cabal’s angel hunting agenda, his thirst for knowledge is in full swing. Being the most locally established member of Postmortem, Damian has decided to offer his Issaquah estate to be the ring’s headquarters and primary meeting place, as well as his services for supernatural research, social savviness and general funding for the ring’s operations.
Now free from the shackles of the Cabal and its looming debts, Vivian asks herself - well, now what? With her loyal 'demon dad' supporting her, she is inevitably drawn to others with a similar fascination for the occult and supernatural; a passion passed on to her from her sister, no longer amongst the living. It only made sense that the girl who once stubbornly held on to the memory of a deceased loved one would now want to help bring some closure to those grieving. Plus, well, who doesn't enjoy a good haunting investigation? And so, she moves from London to Seattle, ready to start anew. In Postmortem, she settles as the resident craftswoman; an enchanted armor, a handcrafted bane or simply a glamorous disguise? You name it, she can make it. Naturally, being able to go unnoticed while one spies and investigates also proves quite useful - like a ghost.
Formerly hailing from sunny California, Dr. Lionel McGee is a new resident of Seattle working at MantaCorp as a biomedical scientist. While he’s outwardly prickly and shies away from social interaction on a good day, get him talking about his passions and he’ll never stop. McGee is a person who is utterly fascinated by the world around him, delighting in the act of learning for learning’s sake. There is nothing he loves more than figuring out how something works—and with the existence of the God-Machine and its Symphony, he’s no shortage of puzzles to tickle his curiosity. With his background, he’s taken up residence predominantly as a medic and researcher for Postmortem. With his newfound freedom from the Cabal, he hopes to finally pursue his plans of answering the questions no one thought to ask about the supernatural, the Symphony, and beyond.
Once a highly skilled weapons engineer for the United States government before they blew up their place of work and fled the country, Jinhai Pang is intelligent, confident in their work and abilities, and plays the keys of chaos wherever it entertains them. After spending their entire time in the Midnight Cabal hopping from invention to invention restlessly in their day-to-day, it’s no surprise that, following the dismantling of the Cabal as a whole, they would take up the role of engineer in weapons and the myriad of other machinery they produce on a constant for the new Symphonic ring known as Postmortem. With the shackles of their debt behind them, Jinhai is now free to explore the Symphonic world more freely than they ever could, and the mere realm of possibility has brought more insane projects flooding over Jinhai’s workspace for the faction than they’ve seen in years. The best part yet? They’re only just getting started.
A former resident of the Philippines, the mechanic now finds herself living in Seattle, teleporting back every once in a while when she misses home. Following the dissolution of the Cabal, Kira admittedly felt lost in what she wanted to do when Lionel Mcgee approached her and asked if she wanted to join Postmortem. Knowing she could never go back to a mundane life, she decided to join. She hasn’t known the occult as long as her peers, she still finds herself just as curious, as well as wanting to make sure her peers were safe while they were researching what went bump in the night. While versatile, her main role in the ring is the primary fighter of the group should physical conflict arise, as well as being the muscle of the group for physical work regarding Postmortem’s purpose. Her allegiance lies with Postmortem, but she is always willing to help old friends and faces alike.
Though physically frail and fragile, Petras has been known to have great strength when it comes to his intelligence. A deep lover of books and anything supernatural, Petras has been traveling the world in search of different cryptids, ghosts, and horrors that lurk the Symphony. Well traveled and well educated in the occult, Petras knows he’s bookish, and keeps to it. Having grown close to Kira over the past couple years, Petras decided to settle down with Kira in Seattle, thus being pulled into Postmortem. Useful for being able to summon small beast-like creatures to do tasks for him, as well as doing organizational and secretary-type tasks, Petras thinks of himself more as structural support for Postmortem, rather than an active eye in their quests. He is often accompanied by his cryptid cat, Void.
