Andrea Plagman McMillin

Andrea Michele Plagman McMillin was born August 8, 1977 in Cherokee, Iowa. She is the oldest daughter of Tom and Michele Plagman. Andrea became interested in art while in high school, creating pen and ink drawings and an amusing model of a "Carmen Miranda" lobster out of foam clay, on display with miscellaneous other creations at her high school graduation party. She enrolled in the Kansas City Art Institute, attending that school for three years. She finished her Studio Art Bachelor's Degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 2016. She is now a Manager of Accreditation at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and has recently launched a "Creativity as Wellness" series of events for the residents and physicians at KU.

Andrea's interest in art has been wide-ranging. While in high school she started a cheesecake factory in the farmhouse kitchen and marketed cheesecakes to families in the neighborhood. In Kansas City she worked as a design consultant for clients ranging from a fundamentalist church interested in adding pizazz to its sanctuary to reworking an independent clothing designer's space for an open house. Andrea designed the logo on the 2008 Standing Family Reunion T-Shirt (really a tea shirt honoring our tea-tasting ancestor—see photos!!). Current creative activities include the inspired holiday cards that arrive at our doorsteps each season, 3 dimensional birthday cakes for her children, hand knit work for her friends and family and chief archivist for the various sticky and colorful masterpieces produced by her delightful offspring.
