Effective Date: 2023-10-15
This procedure outlines the process for collecting, documenting, and handling different types of evidence encountered by members of the S.A.L.E.
Bullet Casings:
Identification: Bullet casings can be identified using a government-issued flashlight. They appear as a blue circle with a number below it.
Serial Number: Check the serial number on the casing.
Meaning of Numbers: A negative sign indicates a shot from a PD-issued weapon, while a positive sign means other sources.
Processing: Record bullet casings' numbers in the Weapon Tab in the MDT under the "Unknown" category, linking them to suspects when obtained.
Fingerprints:
Identification: Fingerprints are relatively rare due to glove-wearing criminals. They appear as green circles.
Individual Identification: Each person has a unique fingerprint that can be searched in the MDT.
Processing: If an unknown print is found, add it to the Reports with the fingerprint and the main reason for the report.
Blood Samples:
Identification: Blood samples are found where bleeding has occurred and appear with a red circle.
Data: Blood samples provide blood type and a unique alphanumeric string associated with a civilian.
Processing: To check blood samples, search for the unique identifier in the #bullet-casings channel in Discord.
Note: Blood samples alone do not confirm a crime but can be used in combination with other evidence to establish a narrative or guilt.
All evidence collected must be thoroughly documented in the respective MDT categories, channels, or reports.
Use clear formatting and maintain consistency in recording and categorizing evidence.
If evidence leads to an arrest, ensure it is clearly connected to the relevant individual's case.
Proper evidence collection, documentation, and processing are essential for the integrity of investigations, arrests, and legal proceedings. Adherence to these procedures is vital to ensure the chain of evidence is maintained.
This procedure provides a clear, professional, and easy-to-understand approach to handling various types of evidence.
