Lake Mills 2023
This race was dedicated to Russell Dillin and his family. #DillinStrong
Necedah XC athletes traveled to Lake Mills to compete in the last night meet of the year. The atmosphere was electrifying, with string lights, loud music, and the bright full moon lighting the course. This was the most challenging course we have faced this season. There was never a break in the hills, and they were massive. Our athletes were either going up or down with no straightaway to help them regain their strength. The dew that settled on the grass made the down hills grueling. Many struggled to breathe because of the humid air, so much so that other teams had runners passing out. The D3 boys race had 226 runners, and the girls had 181 runners. We left Lake Mills with a medal in the girl's race, which was a tremendous accomplishment. There was fierce competition in the D3 races, many of our athletes felt discouraged by their time and place. I believe with time, our athletes will appreciate the challenge of this course, and it will make them more resilient for Conference, Sectionals, and possibly State.
