PRESENT HEAD: Joint Raajas of Khandela (Pana 1 and 2) (Mahal Khandela Fort, Khandela Tehsil, Sikar District, Rajasthan, India)
PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: Khandela was a Kingdom of Chauhan Rajputs of Nirban clan, and as per Kalibai ka Shilalekh (inscription) Roopdeo/ Nathudeo Nirban was a brave Raja of Khandela (A.D. 1575-1597) who helped Rao Raimal Shekhawat of Amarsar in a battle against Mogul Army of Emperor Humayun. The predecessor state belonged to Chauhan Raja Peetha Nirban, whose daughter Rajkumari Kisnavati Nirban married Raja Raisal Shekhawat of Amarsar.(#2) As per some sources, princess Kisnawati was the only daughter of the Nirban Raja, thus adding Khandela to Amarsar territory upon marriage. Her son Raja Hari Ram died in a battle in deccan and the state was usurped by his nephew Ladkhani Madho Singh and later by his brother Girdhardas who was made responsible for its administration till infancy of the heir apparent Raja Hriday Ram whose descendants settled at Mundru and are considered as the head seat of the dynasty.(#4) Nirban literature asserts that Khandela was their head seat and wrested by deceit in collusion with the Mughals as the Nirban dynasty remained fiercely independent and didn't accept Akbar's suzerainty. It was annexed by Raja Raisal's seventh son Girdhardas and recognized as his estate by Mughal Emperor. Khandela is the site of two forts, namely Bara Pana Fort and Chhota Pana Fort. The estate is a Istimrar lease and Nobles are treated as Mamlaguzars. Rulers and estate holders were...
Raja KHANDELGIRI NIRBAN, Raja of Khandelgiri or Khandel-Pattan, fl. 101 B.S., he was a Chauhan Rajput ruler of Nirwan clan and was influenced by Shaivism. His flourishing kingdom had 84 vassals and 900 temples and was the head seat of Jains in India, the city was infested with plague and they converted to Jainism thereby leading to mass-conversion of 3 lakh people and emergence of Khandelwal Jains.
Raja UDAYKARAN NIRBAN, Raja of Khandela, fl. 1467 as per Vardhman Charit, during his reign Maharana Kumbha of Mewar (Chittorgarh) attacked Khandela and looted the city.
Roop Deo Nirvan, Raja of Khandela (V.S. 1575-1597), supported Rao Raimal Shekhawat of Amarsar against Mogul Army of Humayun led by Hindol in the 2nd battle of Shikargarh at Idasri (Anesri).

Later, he was entrusted with management of the security of Royal Palace Mogul Emperor Akbar; he fought various battles under him including Sarnal, Kherabad and Patan. [Akbarnama, page 333, 382, 416] He was awarded the Title of 'RAJA' by Akbar and had a Mansabdari of 2500 zat and 1250 sawar, increased to 3000 when Salim (Jahangir) became Emperor as Raisal played key role in his succession. In 1640, he saved life of Akbar, when due to death of his daughter by committing sati, Raja Uday Singh of Jodhpur took out a sword to kill Akbar. Beveridge, B.C.S. (Retd.), Revised, Annotated and Completed by Baini Prashad, D.Sc, F.A.S., Printed At The Calcutta Oriental Press Ltd., Published by the Asiatic Society, Calcutta, 1952. "He was granted the title of Courtier (Darbari) and Raja by Padshah Akbar, Mughal Emperor of Delhi. He captured parganas of Kasli and Rewasa from Chandels and Udaipurvati from Nirbans after becoming the Raja of Khandela. While he was in the Deccan, Madho Singh Ladkhani and other grandsons of his, out of boldness and evil intentions, collected a number of vagabonds and forcibly took possession of their grand-father's property. Mathura Das Bengali, who was acting as the Raja's deputy at the Court behaved with prudence and rescued part of the property from the hands of the usurpers."
The date of Raisal's death is uncertain and the Kingdom was under management of his Minister Mathura Das Bengali, when it was initially usurped. As per Khandela Thikana records he was made the ruler of Khandela in 1614, i.e., immediately after the death of Raja Raisal, which is doubtful, due to uncertainty of date of his demise, and Thakur Girdhar's low mansab of 800/800 (1615-1620), 1000/800 (1621) and finally 2000/1500 & title of Raja granted only in 1622, just one year before his death, i.e. when he was actually recognized, as Khandela always had a Raja, never a Thakur, that Girdhar was from 1615 to 1622. Moreover, the records of Thikana Mundru state that Khandela was usurped by ousting the Majis by treachery.
