Maharajkumari Viveka Kumari [Kunwarani Viveka Kumari], born 18th April 1980, engaged on 5th May 2010, married 2011 Kunwar Abhijeet Singh, son of Shri N.K. Singh, Congress politician and Minister in Government of India.
PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The state was founded about 1257, when Rao Soningji, younger son of Rao Sheoji of Marwar (Mandore), took Idar from the Dabhi Rajputs. In 1729, when Abhai Singh, Raja of Jodhpur, was Subahdar of Gujarat under the Emperor Muhammad Shah, and his brother Bakht Singh was the conqueror of Nagar (sic. Nagaur), two other brothers, named Anand Singh and Rai Singh, established themselves at Idar by force of arms. The Peshwa and the Gaekwad soon despoiled the young State, and Raja Sheo Singh, was compelled to lose part of his territories, and to pay tribute to the Gaekwad. This tribute is still (1893) paid by the Maharaja of Idar, who in return receives tribute from some other minor States. Rao SONINGJI [Sonamji], 1st Rao of Idar 1257/1283, younger son of Rao Sheoji of Marwar (Mandore), he was originally granted the estate of Sametra by Raja Bhim Dev II of Anhilvada, he conquered a large tract of Sabarmati River lands from Mosar in the North to Vasna State near Sadra, Ahmedabad; married and had issue, the Hathundia Rathores. He died 1283.

Rao RANMALJI, 6th Rao of Idar 1345/1403, he conquered the Yadav lands of Bhagar situated between Idar and Mewar, but afterwards he was forced to submit to the Muslim rulers of Ahmedabad towards the end of the 14th century.
Rao PUNJJI I, 7th Rao of Idar 1403/1428,during his Sultan Ahmad Shah I invaded his kingdom and he was forced to flee to the hills (1426); the Sultan built a fort at Ahmednagar on the banks of the Hathmati to control the Idar Chiefs (1427), who was killed in a foray against the Muslims the following year; married and had issue. He was killed while fleeing from the Muslim force when his horse lost its footing and he was thrown into a ravine.

Rao NARAYANDASJI I, 8th Rao of Idar 1428/1481, he was forced to pay tribute of 3,000Rs to make the Muslim forces leave Idar, but they returned on 14th November of the following year when he refused to pay the tribute; married and had issue.

Rao BHANJI, 9th Rao of Idar 1481/1501, he was attacked by the Muslims in 1445 and forced to flee but eventually agreed to give his daughter in marriage to Sultan Muhammed II, who then removed his troops from Idar, married and had issue, two sons.

Rao BHIMJI, 11th Rao of Idar 1503/1514, he attacked and defeated Ain-ul-mulk, the Governor of Patan in 1514, causing Sultan Muzaffar Shah to burn and destroy Idar which he had found abandoned; the Sultan was bought off by a large sum of money and made peace with the Rao, married and had issue.

Rao DHAMALJI, 12th Rao of Idar in 1514
Rao RAI MALJI [Raja Malji], 13th Rao of Idar 1514/1515 or 1512/1514 and 1514/1517, he was deposed as a minor, by his uncle in early 1514, he regained the throne later that same year in 1514, but fled to the hills of Bijanagar in around 1517, married a daughter of Maharana Sangram Singh I, Maharana of Mewar. He died around 1517.
Rao BHARMALJI, 14th Rao of Idar 1515/1543 or succeeded his father in 1514 but expelled shortly afterwards by Maharana Sangram Singh I, he was re-instated in 1515 by Sultan Muzaffar Shah whose forces were driven out in 1519 but he recaptured Idar in December 1520, they didn't occupy the city for long as the Rao was attacked in 1528 and 1530, after which he maintained peace and served in the Sultan's camp. He died in 1543.
Rao PUNJAJJI II, 15th Rao of Idar 1543/1573; during his reign the power of the Ahmedabad Sultans declined greatly and he was able to rule without interference until the tribute was abolished when the Rao agreed to provide 2000 horse, married and had issue.
Rao Narayandasji II (qv)
Rao NARAYANDASJI II, 16th Rao of Idar 1573/-, at the beginning of his reign he revolted against Khan Aziz Koka, the Governor of Gujarat, which was checked by Padshah Akbar, in 1575 and 1576 expeditions were sent against the Roa forcing him to flee, and Idar fell into the Emperor's hands, the Rao submitted and was made a Commander of 2000 men and 500 horse; married (amongst others), a Rani from Banswara, and had issue.
Rao Gopaldasji Narayandasji, overlooked in the succession, he took service with the Emperor in the hope of gaining the Idar gadi, he was in due course place at the head of an army but on the way to Idar, he was defeated and killed at Mandva by the landlord of that place, he was the founder and first Thakore Sahib of Valasna; married and had issue, five sons, who were left for their safety in the hands of a cowherd named Volo and when adult made that place their capital and called it Valasna.

Rao JAGANNATHJI KALYANMALJI, 19th Rao of Idar -/1656, last Rao of Idar, he was expelled from Idar to Pol in 1656 by Murad Baksh, at that time, the subahdar of Gujarat; married and had issue. He died shortly after 1656 at Pol.

Rao PUNJAJJI III JAGANNATHJI, 20th Rao of Idar 1656/1658, he succeded as a minor and only ruled for 16 months, he retook Idar in 1658 with the help of the Maharana of Mewar but was poisoned to death six months later. He died 1658.
Rao ARJUNDASJI JAGANNATHJI, 21st Rao of Idar 1658/1659, he was killed by the Rehevar Rajputs when he attacked Ranasan. He was killed in a battle in 1659.
Rao GOPINATHJI KALYANMALJI, 22nd Rao of Idar 1664/1669, he regained Idar in 1664 and held it for five years, when he was driven out by Garibdas Rehevar; married and had issue. He died of an opium addiction in or shortly after 1669.

Baiji Lal (name unknown), married Thakur Shakti Singh of Nimaj in Sirohi, and had issue.
Rao KARANSINHJI GOPINATHJI, 23rd Rao of Idar at Pol 1669/1679, he drove out the Muslim garrison in Idar in 1679 and regained possession of the capital which he didn't hold for long; he fled to Sarvan where he later died; married and had issue. He died at Sarvan in 1724 or 1728/1729.

Rao Madhavsinhji Karansinhji, he took possession of Verabar, married and had issue (see Verabar).
Rao CHANDRASINHJI KARANSINHJI [CHANDAJI], 24th Rao of Idar at Pol 1679/1718 and 1st Rao of Pol 1718/1720, during his reign the Muslims were driven out from Idar in 1718, he placed Thakore Sardarsinghji of Valasna in charge of the capital and returned to Pal/Pol and killed the Parihar Chief of the placed and assumed the gadi of Pol himself.
Period of anarchy 1679/1731, Thakore Sardarsinghji ruled in Idar for a short time but was expelled and replaced by Bacha Pandit until 1731, when Idar was conquered by the brothers of the Maharaja of Jodhpur.
Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri ANANDSINHJI Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Idar 1731/1742, brother of Maharaja Jodhpur; with the help of his brother Rai Singhji and a few horseman from Palanpur and the Kolis of Gadwara, he established himself in Idar in 1729 or 1731 without difficulty; in 1734, Jawan Mard Khan, a leading Mulsim Noble, marched on Idar but was forced to pay 175,000Rs when he found himself opposed by the combined forces of the Maharaja of Idar and the Maratha Chiefs, Malharrao Holkar and Ranojirao Scindia; he was killed in an attack by the forces of the Chief of Ranasan in 1742 who took the capital but couldn't hold it when Maharaj Rai Singhji returned to Idar and drove out the Ranasan forces placing his nephew on the gadi and ruling in his place as Regent; married (amongst others) (a), 1735, Maharani Laad Kunwar, third daughter of Maharao Shri Chattarsal Singh, and his third wife, Rani Ropan De, and had issue. He was killed in 1742 or 1753.

Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri SHIVSINHJI ANANDSINHJI Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Idar 1742/1791, born 1736, lost Parantij, Vijapur, Modasa, Bayad, Harsol and more to the Peshwa, in 1766 he was forced to pay a half share of the revenues of the state to Marathas as they claimed it had belonged to Maharaj Raisinghji who died without an heir, married and had issue, five sons. He died 1791.

Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sangramsinhji Shivsinhji Sahib Bahadur, 1st Maharaja of Ahmednagar 1791/1798, born about 1758, he was granted the estate of Ahmednagar by his father in 1773 but assumed independence from Idar in 1791; Senior member of the Council of Regency of Idar on behalf of his infant nephew 1791/1792; married and had issue. He died 1798.

Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri GAMBHIRSINHJI BHAWANISINHJI Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Idar 1791/1833, born 1778, he was forced to pay off his uncles when they attacked him in 1795, in 1804, he helped the son of the murdered Thakur of Ghodvada to regain the gadi, in 1808 he attacked Virahar, a cadet of the Pol family and the villages of Temba, Navargam and Berna, exacting tribute from all of them, in 1809 he attacked a number of Koli and Rajput villages again exacting tribute; married and had issue. He died 12th August 1833 (#2).

He died 26th December 1868.

HH Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sir DAULAT SINGHJI Sahib Bahadur K.C.S.I., Maharaja of Idar 1911/1931, born 12th May 1878 at Jodhpur (#8 p.27), son of Maharaj Bhupal Singh of Jodhpur, adopted by HH Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh in 1902; he was formally installed on the gadi on 21st July 1911 after the abdication of his predecessor; educated at Mayo College, Ajmer; the Honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel was conferred on him on 1st January 1918 in recognition of his services during WWI; he was appointed a K.C.S.I. on 1st January 1920 (#8 p.27), married HH Maharaniji Shri Poonglianiji, daughter of the Pattedar of Sattasar, and had issue. He died 14th April 1931 in Bomaby.
HH Rani Tej Kunwar Ba Sahiba, born 13th June 1897 in Himmatnagar, married 1918 in Himmatnagar, Capt. HH Rana Sir Ranjit Singhji of Barwani, and had issue. She died 17th August 1980 in Indore.

Maharaj Sahib Narpat Singhji, married Rani Sahib Jogmaya Devi, she died 6th September 2015, daughter of Maharajkumar Pattayet Sahib Narsingh Pratap Singh Deo of Dhenkanal, and his wife, Pattayet Rani Jatan Kumari Devi, and had issue. He died 24th February 2003.

HH Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri HIMMAT SINGHJI Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Idar 1931/1960, born 2nd September 1899 (#6)(#8 p.27) in Jodhpur or 22nd October 1899 (#7 p.314), he succeeded his father on 14th April 1931 (#7 p.314) and was installed on the gadi on 11th July 1931 (#7 p.319); he acted as Page to H.I.M. at the Delhi Coronation Darbar in 1911, educated at Mayo College, Ajmer; he represented the college in tent-pegging and tennis; he was an accomplished sportsman and was reckoned as one of the best polo players at the college; after finishing his education he assisted his father in every aspect of the states administration; he toured India in 1929-1930 in order to gain experience; he also had great success with his race horses, winnning the Indian Derby and Eclipse Stakes (1937); married 1stly, 1908, HH Maharani Jawahar Kunwar Sahiba, elder daughter of Raja Hamir Singh of Khandela-Senior by his first wife, Rani Mertiji, married 2ndly, 1916, HH Maharani Tej Kunwar Sahiba, daughter of HH Swasti Sir Raja Kirti Shah of Tehri-Garhwal, married 3rdly, HH Maharani Megh Kunwar Sahiba of Sabalwad, and had issue. He died 24th November 1960.

Maharaj Shri Amar Singhji Sahib (by Maharani Jawahar Kunwar), born 1919, he was granted the jagir of Daljitgarh, comprising 10 villages, by his father on 27th October 1933 (abolished 1st August 1954), married Rani Surendra Kunwar, died 2012, daughter of Thakur Kalyan Singhji of Osian, and had adoptive issue. He died 4th January 2013.
