I go back to cycling last year after a long 5 years pause. The last time I cycle was about when I was in grade 5. I managed to secure myself a "road bike" which turns out to be a touring bike thanks to my poor knowledge of bicycle at the time. And so I started cycling in my local neighborhood, then to local street, and finally to school. Right now, I bike to school and back on Monday, Tuesday and occasionally Wednesday to cope with Bangkok's traffic. I also seldom go to Nong Bon lake park or Suvarnabhumi airport's cycling lane to do a serious cycling which usually take about 2 hours.

Progress toward learning outcome

Be more physically active - I have always wanted to go to school without riding my parents' car. I have thought about walking and BTS sky train but I felt that it was too boring and slow. I believe that cycling will check the box here.

Develop awareness on public road - Road is a dangerous place especially in Bangkok. To prevent injuries, I will need raod awareness and senses.

Find new hobby that I genuinely enjoy - I am tire of aswering "video games and reading" when people ask me what my hobbies are.

Reflection

At first, cycling in Thailand is very scary. I have absolutely no thought of riding on an actual road and only planned to ride around my neighborhood and in the park's bike lane. I am not a type of guy who would throw my life away on the road. Bike commuting was just a dream back then. However, as I started to venture further and further each day, I discovered that one of the path to my school have got an oversize road which give bike a huge space without getting into car's lane. More over, it turns out that police will not arrest me from riding on a sidewalk if it was in the main road. At last, I was finally able to cycle to school. I still take full caution and avoid crossing road while on bike since it is too dangerous in my opinion.

I felt very great achieving something I thought was impossible. Especially when my grandma is very against cycling in the road. Fortunately, I was able to convince her that it is not that dangerous.

About 6 months later, I felt that this decision is a worthwhile one. Now, I felt much more free thanks to the mobility that bicycle gave me. At last, the challenge of riding on the road has been undertaken and thus make going to nearby convenience store and shopping mall much easier and faster for me.
