Museu Paroquial

Instalado na recuperada Igreja de São João Baptista (antiga Capela de São Vicente da Gafaria), localizada junto à Porta da Vila, o Museu de São João tem como missão dar a conhecer a Arte Sacra, assumindo uma orientação estreita com os princípios da Igreja, a arte como meio e o Cristianismo como conteúdo. Constitui-se como incentivo ao estudo, investigação, organização e divulgação dos bens artísticos e históricos da Igreja, reforçando a coesão cultural e territorial.

Mandada erigir pela Rainha Santa Isabel em 1309, esta igreja, então dedicada a S. Vicente, serviu para assistência religiosa àqueles que mais padeciam na Idade Média, os leprosos. Já no início do séc. XVI o templo foi integrado no património da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Óbidos e, desde 19 de Outubro de 1636 até ao evento do liberalismo, serviu de sede à Paróquia e Colegiada de São João Baptista.

O Museu Paroquial de Óbidos (ou de São João) vive da relação entre as Paróquias de Óbidos e a Misericórdia de Óbidos, numa relação estreita com a Rede de Museus e Galerias de Óbidos, na definição dos discursos expositivos de carácter temático e temporário, como ponto de encontro e diálogo entre a comunidade e as suas raízes.

Installed in the recovered Church of São João Baptista (former Chapel of São Vicente da Gafaria), located next to Porta da Vila, the São João Museum's mission is to make known Sacred Art, assuming a close orientation with the principles of the Church, art as a medium and Christianity as content. It is an incentive for the study, investigation, organization and dissemination of the Church's artistic and historical goods, reinforcing cultural and territorial cohesion.

Ordered to be erected by Queen Santa Isabel in 1309, this church, then dedicated to St. Vincent, served as a religious assistance to those who most suffered in the Middle Ages, the lepers. At the beginning of the century. XVI the temple was integrated in the patrimony of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Óbidos and, since October 19, 1636 until the event of liberalism, served as the seat of the Parish and Collegiate of São João Baptista.

The Óbidos Parish Museum (or São João) lives from the relationship between the Óbidos Parishes and the Óbidos Misericórdia, in a close relationship with the Óbidos Network of Museums and Galleries, in the definition of thematic and temporary expository speeches, as meeting point and dialogue between the community and its roots.
