In Pec Roll, the performer contracts each of his pectoral muscle fibers in a row from the bottom to the top of the pec, resulting in a vertical bottom-to-top wave/roll effect. For the wave/roll to be more visible, the performer has to have low body fat, because the muscle fibers will be more apparent on the pecs as they create the wave/roll.
Pec Roll is a different pectoral control skill to Pec Bounce, since the latter means all of the pectoral muscle fibers contracting at once; in Pec Roll there is linear, progressive and smooth muscle contraction from the bottom to the top of the pec. Exactly because of this smooth contraction, Pec Roll is one of the most aesthetic muscle control performances.
Much like pec bouncing, there are three variations of pec roll: mono, double and linear.
Our Youtube playlist of this control may be found here.
While (probably) not the first to perform it, the bodybuilder who consciously familiarized pec roll with the muscle fan community during his performing period (circa 2007-2010) was Aaron Shea, preferring it to the classic pec bouncing.
In a backstage video from AllAmericanGuys studio, Aaron demonstrates the pec roll to his colleagues, asking if they can perform it too, only to realize he's the only pec roller of the group.
Gary performing pec waves with both his pecs (double pec wave) then with each of them individually (linear pec wave). You see the pectoral muscle fibers apparent on the skin as they form the waves
As pec shakes are usually reached by accelerating pec bounces, pec bounces can be reached by accelerating pec rolls
There are performers who can easily interchange between pec bounces, pec shakes and pec rolls. A single, double pec roll is usually performed after a pec bounce or a pec shake sequence to project this interchange ability, much like a "finishing move"
Pec rolling while keeping the pec flexed is uniquely performed by Youtube user Muscles In Motion. It seems to be possible if the performer can slightly and visually imperceptibly relax the fibers of his chest to be allowed to initiate pec rolling while, however, keeping them visually flexed. Indicates incredible pec control
