Design Challenge

2023 Business Plan.pdf

Welcome to the Client Design Challenge. In this project, you will lead a design project with a hypothetical client. Through this challenge, you will experience what it is like to lead a freelance project, from learning about your potential client, to creating quotes and contracts, to getting the work done and getting paid.

You will offer your services as a graphic designer in creating either a brand, an advertisement campaign, develop a 3d product or layout a magazine. While you are not doing this project for real money, the skills you learn here can be applied to any real business, should you decide to continue doing work in the field of graphic design. Before you start this project, make sure you have completed your Freelance Business Plan project, since you will need some of the resources you created for that in this project.

Step 1:
Pick your Client:

Click on the links of the different projects listed below and decide which one you find the most interesting. Each one of the projects is a link to something called a Client Brief. This is a detailed description of the requirements of the project.  When you pick a client, you are also picking a project. You CAN'T Mix and match projects. Pick ONLY ONE PROJECT!

Step 2:
Crete a Quote

Use the template for a Quote that you created on Canva as part of your Freelance Business Plan project. Change the information on that quote to match the requirements of your client. Then download only that page as a PDF so you can send it to your client over e-mail.

Step 3:
Send an E-mail

In order to start your project, you have to send a professional e-mail to your client. Find the e-mail for your particular client on the brief. In order to start your work your client has to respond to you agreeing to the quote. You can find a template of what to say on your e-mail here:

Client E-mail Template

Make sure you change some of the e-mail to make it personal.

Send your e-mal to:
mtdmagraphics@gmail.com

Step 4:
Send a Contract

After you get a response from your client stating that they agree to the quote,  you can send them a contract. Do this by downloading only the pages of the Service agreement that you created on Canva as part of your Freelance Business Plan project. Make sure you change the details in the service agreement to Match your client.

Step 5:
Produce the Work

You can use any combination of Canva, Photoshop or Illustrator to create the work. But in the end your project will have to be turned in as a single PDF document.

Step 6:
Get Feedback

Submit an innitial draft of your project in order to receive feedback. Attach your project to an e-mail to send to your client. Your client will respond with changes and you have to make those changes.

Step 7:
Send Final for approval

Once you make the changes on your project, send your files over e-mail for final approval. Your client may request more changes or approve your final design. Once your client approves a final version, you can send an invoice.

Step 8:
Send an Invoice

This is the last step to get paid. Use the template for an Invoice that you created on Canva as part of your Freelance Business Plan project. Change the information on that invoice to match the work you did for your client. Then download only that page as a PDF so you can send it to your client over e-mail.
