Make an Animation

  1. After you make a new project and save your file, click on the Icon to create a new composition.

2. Make sure your settings match the image below

3. Let's start by creating a background. Go to Layer > Solid

4. Rename the solid to [Background] and Change the background to the color of your choice

5. Now let's make a Shape layer so we can start making circles. Go to Layer > Shape Layer

6. Before you do anything else, right click on your Shape Layer [Control+Click] and Click Rename. Rename your layer to "Circle 1"

7. Open your layer settings by clicking on the little arrow and then click on the arrow next to "Add:"

8. Add an Ellipse first. This will create a circle shape in the middle of your image

9. Add a stroke to your circle. A stroke is an outline color.

10. You are ready to animate your circle. Open the Transform Options and note the scale option.

11. We want the circle to get bigger over time. So move your time cursor to 1 second, activate your Scale animation by clicking on the little blue timer. Then make your circle 850% larger.

12. We want the circle to start really small so bring your time cursor back to 0 and make your scale 0%. Test your animation to make sure that your circle animates from small to big.

13. Now we want to change the acceleration of the animation to make it look better. Select both of your scale keyframes

14. Right click [Option+Click] over one of the keyframes and choose Keyframe Assistant > Easy Ease

15. Now click on the Graph button next to your time cursor and on the Graph Settings on the lower bar

16. Make sure you are in "Edit Speed Graph"

17. Click on the right most point of the graph once so that the yellow handles show up. Do NOT move this point.

18. Instead, click and drag the little yellow handle and move it to the left as far as it can go. Then click back on your Graph button to go back to your keyframes.

19. Now let's animate the stroke so your circle can disappear. Open the Stroke Options. Move your time cursor close to the end of your circle animation and activate your "Stroke Width" animation by clicking on the blue timer.

20. Now move your time cursor to 1 second and change the "Stroke Width" to 0. Check your animation so the circle disappears.

21. Now you are ready to duplicate the effect. Close your options. Press Command+D to duplicate the layer and move the whole layer a little to the right. Once you check the animation Press Command+D to duplicate the layer yet again and move that layer to the right. Repeat as necessary.
