A Vlog is a composite word that comes from Video and Log. It's like a diary entry in video form that shows the events that happen in a day and your reactions, thoughts and perspective on these events. For this project, you will create a video entry of your life in a normal day of school. What I want to see is what a normal day for you looks like.
You can start the chronology from you house as you are getting ready or from the time you get to school school. Your video must contain your descriptions of events and b-roll.
This is a great way to gain confidence by applying the video workflow. Creating a video vlog allows you to practice recording video, uploading, processing, editing, adding music and publishing. This project will help you practice all the main production skills necessary to succeed in this class.
Read this entire document. Make a quick list of how you want to start your vlog and where and how you are going to record during each passing period. If you can, make a storyboard. You can even practice recording to WeVideo or your phone.
You have to remember to start recording in the morning and to record each and every time during passing period and during lunch and after school. During 4th period, upload all the videos you already have using image capture and start you edit in WeVideo. I will only have a few cables available to download your project, so try to bring your own.
Record any extra B-roll you need throughout the day based on your first edit. During 4th period, start refining your story and make sure you did not miss anything important that you would have to re-record.
Do any last minute filming, but during class begin adding music, titles, effects and integrating your b-roll
Use the last day to make any last minute adjustments to your video. Finalize it, export it and turn it in!
Record your video horizontally like a YouTube Video using your phone or your Chromebook.
Only record quick sections before school starts, during passing periods, lunch and after school.
Tell us about your day in general, about your experiences or challenges in each class, and what is on your mind as the day progresses.
Record b-roll, like scenes of you walking and hanging out with friends, shots of the school and little details around campus that will make your video more interesting to watch. You need at least 2 clips of b-roll per section, so at least 12 clips of b-roll total
You can record you video and b-roll over one or two days.
Make sure you video is sufficiently stable. Specially your b-roll. Extremely shaky video is not good.
Alternatively, if you do not want to be on camera, you can write your thoughts throughout the day and record them as a narration later on. You would have to record a lot of b-roll throughout the day to fill out your video though, so that's a tradeoff.
Your video should end up being around 3-5 minutes long.
Do NOT record your video vertically like a TikTok or reel.
Do NOT record during your actual classes!
Do NOT include other people in your video without their consent.
Do NOT complain about teachers or other students personally. You can talk about assignments or challenges in your classes but not about people specifically.
Do NOT include content that is not school appropriate: fights, violence, bullying, drug use, cursing, etc.
Do NOT have you music be louder than your voice. Your voice should be clearly audible.
Record a quick sequence of 10 shots as you are getting ready: Getting up from bed, brushing teeth, eating breakfast, putting on makeup, putting stuff in your backpack, putting on shoes, walking to school, etc.
Before your first class, sit somewhere quiet and introduce yourself, tell the audience that this is your vlog and that you will take them on a journey throughout your day. You can record a bit of b-roll before school starts.
After 1st Period, record a quick entry of at least 1 minute about how your class went, what you liked or a challenge that you came across, were you able to finish all your work or is there a project or assignment coming up that has you nervous.
After 2nd Period, same thing, record another entry of at least 1 minute about how that class went and how you are feeling in terms of energy and what are you looking forward to?
During Lunch, record a quick entry of at least 2 minutes of what you are having for lunch, if you are visiting a teacher during this time, what you and your friends do and any other interesting thing that happens during that time.
After 3rd Period, record another quick entry of at least 1 minute about how your class went, what you liked or a challenge that you came across, are you getting tired or do you love your last couple classes.
After 4th Period, record a quick entry of at least 2 minutes in which you first talk about your last class and how that went and then one highlight from your entire day. Thank everyone for coming along in your journey and sign off.
If you are able to take b-roll during the day you are doing your vlog, great! But you can always use other days to record extra b-roll in case you need more to make your video interesting.

If you used your phone, you have to connect it to your iMac using Image Capture. Connect your phone to the computer using your charger. I only have a couple of chargers available, so bring you own on Tuesday to download your video.
Find or search for image capture in your Launchpad and unlock your phone. Find the videos you want to download.
Make sure you select Import to: Documents, otherwise you will not be able to find your videos.
Also, click on "Download," NOT "Download All" unless you want to have all your pics get downloaded to the computer.
If your phone is not an iphone, you can upload your videos to the google Drive and then transfer them to WeVideo.
If you used WeVideo and your Chromebook to record then you don't need to import anything. Just record directly to We-Video
