The main role of a nutritionist is to help people achieve optimal health by providing information and advice about health and food choices.
As a mother of 3 children at school and kinder (9, 7, 5) I have become incredibly passionate about promoting health and fitness to the school age group as I understand the importance and benefits gained from leading a healthy lifestyle and making the right choices.
As a university qualified Nutritionist and teacher, I have a great understanding about food and the information the children should know when it comes to health, but also how this should be delivered and the curriculum. While I offer advice on nutrition within my knowledge and experience, I don’t prescribe dietary treatments for specific conditions, this is the role of a dietician. I have a particular interest in children's health and sport nutrition.
While it is important that children have an understanding about making the right choices it is also imperative that parents do to. Our children look to us for advice and if we are not equipped with the right information, we will not be assisting our children or ourselves to make the right choices when it comes to food.
If you have any questions, I am always happy for you to touch base.
The Australian Dietary Guidelines provide us with up-to-date advice about the amount and types of foods that we (adults & children) need to eat for health and wellbeing. The recommendations are based on scientific evidence, developed after looking at good quality research.
