Health and Skill Based Fitness Components
This unit aims to give the students an understanding of the benefits of regular physical activity and perhaps participate in other forms of exercise they may not regularly participate in, aside from specific sport activities.
The students started off the term with fitness testing which linked with the various health-related and skill-related fitness components you see in the images below and we formed SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable. realistic and timely) from our results. These components will be regularly discussed so the students have an understanding of when these are utilised during exercise - when they do cross country, netball, soccer etc. They will continue to be introduced to different ways people keep fit, particularly various high intensity interval training, tabata sessions.
Invasion Games Unit
Invasion games are team games, the purpose is to invade your the opponents' area, while trying to score points and keeping the opposing team's points to a minimum. Examples of these are netball, soccer, AFL, rugby, hockey. With the Winter Gala Day at the end of the term, our focus this term is netball and European Handball. Students will be given skill development sessions in these sports and have the opporunity to play various games that highlight the sport specific skills required for these sports.
Have your children tell you rules they learnt from the games they played or show you some of their skills??
