The way that you use lighting in your work can completely change the photographs you take. Now that you understand how to control light as it enters your camera (the exposure triangle), you must also deepen your knowledge of how we can control light as it hits our subject, as well.
Task 1:
Watch the video and make notes on the difference between soft and hard lighting .
Task 2:
Write a title on top of a new slide Lighting Research
Underneath explain the difference between hard light and soft light. Explain the purpose and difference between a diffuser and reflector - include images.
Task 3:
On a new slide, carry out research into the following types of lighting and find an image of a person for each of the following
Side /Split lighting - 90 degrees
Back Lighting - 180 degrees
Rembrandt Lighting - 45 degrees
Loop Lighting 30-45 degrees
Butterfly / Paramount Lighting - 0 (light above subject)
Clamshell Lighting - 0 light above + reflector
Caption each photo with the type of lighting you have found - put six landscape images per slide

Find a diagram and a photo to show how the different types of lighting are created and write up your notes from the video on Broad Lighting and Short Lighting
Write about what each type of lighting and how it effects the subject - use the button below to help. You may need to use more slides.
e.g. Butterfly lighting is a setup that consists of a main light coming from above and in front of the subject. This creates a dramatic shadow under the nose and chin that looks like a butterfly. It also helps to narrow the shape of the face.
Task 4
Add a new slide called Creative Lighting. Find 4 or 6 examples include examples of Creative, unusual, torch, horror lighting, fairy lighting.

Watch the video from from 1:27 onwards to learn more about subtle studio light set-ups which you can use when taking your own photographs. Make notes about the Laws of Lighting and add this information with appropriate images to your site.
