Link to Design History Timeline.
This is a good place to start and has a list of notable people from that design era.
Graphic Design History Research
Learning Objective: Students will conduct research on an assigned era in Graphic Design history and create a series of Google Slides to present their understandings to the class. Students will then create an informational poster about their Design History Era.
Part 1-Google Slide Presentation
Create/Design a Google Slideshow in the style of your research topic. Below is what should be on each slide:
Slide 1: When was it? What is it?
What was happening during that time in history? (For example, was it during WWI etc.)
Summarize the design movement in two sentences. WHAT'S YOUR PITCH?! Why should we care?!
What is this movement known for and what was it influenced by?
Slide 2 & 3: Who are two important designers we should know?
Why should we care about them? What’s the essential information we should know?
Provide Examples of their work
Slide 4-5: Break down the visual design aesthetic.
What are some of the common visual themes?
What elements and Principles of Art and Design are used?
How could we use this style in modern day design? Can you find modern design examples?
Ask yourself: IS THIS INFORMATION ESSENTIAL?
We don't need to know birth dates and boring stuff like that. What information is going to make us all better designers?
Part 2-Informational Poster
Create a visual information poster about your design era.
Poster must include:
Design Era's Name
Design Era Tagline: Write something catchy to grab the viewer's attention and interest them into looking at your poster.
1 short paragraph describing the design style with it's general information such as the date, it's origins, what it represented, etc.
At least 1 of the notable designers you researched and a short blurb about them. This could be 1-3 sentences, whatever you want to get the point across
Use whatever imagery you want, but the poster must reflect the visual aspects of that design era.
Poster must be 11 X 17 inches at 300 dpi
