Abstract Art: Art that does not attempt to represent external reality
Composition: The arrangement of elements within an artwork
Geometric Shape: A shape defined by math (circle, triangle, square)
Organic/Warped Shape: A freeform, irregular shape
In this project, you will create an abstract artwork inspired by Wassily Kandinsky. You will design your composition using specific shapes and a limited color palette.
✅ Requirements:
Your artwork must include all of the following elements:
3 colors only (you choose which 3 colors)
6 circles (different sizes)
2 warped or organic shapes
2 triangles
10 lines (any length or thickness)
4 squares or rectangles
Rules:
Shapes can overlap or extend off the edges of your design.
You may rotate and resize shapes as you wish.
You may use digital tools (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) or create by hand with colored paper and markers.
Your composition should be balanced and creative.

Research & Inspiration:
Look at examples of Kandinsky’s artwork.
Notice how he uses color, line, and shape to create movement and interest.
Sketch Your Design:
Plan your composition on paper or digitally.
Make sure you include all required shapes and colors.
Get your sketch approved before starting your final piece.
Create Your Final Artwork:
Digital: Use Adobe Illustrator
Size your document to 8.5”.x11”.
CMYK color
Keep your work organized and intentional.
Write a Short Reflection:
Add your work to your portfolio website
In 3–4 sentences, explain:
Why you chose your colors
How you arranged your shapes
How Kandinsky inspired your design
You must use all the elements.
Shapes can overlap, rotate, or be partially off the canvas.
Colors may be applied to any shapes, but you are limited to 3 colors total.
Composition should feel balanced and intentional.
