When Should I Make a New Paragraph
THE Golden RULE: Always start a new paragraph when you switch speakers in dialogue.
GUIDELINES: Start a new paragraph when:
A new character enters the scene.
A new idea is introduced.
A new event happens.
The setting changes.
The reader needs a break from a long paragraph.
The “camera” moves, as in the movies, or the camera angle changes.
Information isn’t closely related.
Time moves forward or backward.
A description of one thing ends and something else is described.
A special effect is needed to add humor or drama.
