Marsh Daisies

The Marsh Daisy was discovered ranging on the coastal plains near Southport, where, despite the wet conditions that give them their name, they continued to lay even when other birds had given up for winter. They are a smaller sized bird than our bigger Marans and Sussexes, and therefore lay a smaller white egg, adding a bit more variety to the boxes we sell to local customers.

The breed website states that there are less than 200 breeding females left in the country - this is a very rare chicken indeed!

The males have a striking rose comb and are good-natured and gentle with the hens. Our birds were also sourced locally and are mostly the wheaten colour strain of the breed. Despite their size they are incredibly fleet footed and you have to be nimble indeed to catch one!
