A challenging year
As our anticipated kidding in April approached the nannies were getting huge! In the end Sorrel was the first to burst and we found her after she'd already delivered the first around midnight. Sadly it was dead. The next two followed in very quick succession and although they looked completely normal, something wasn't right. Neither had much spark and aside from flopping their heads around, they didn't seem to make any attempts to get up.
Sorrel perhaps also knew this as she seemed more interested in looking for the first-born than she did encouraging the other two.
As an hour passed the kids were getting hypothermic and we had to remove them back to the farmhouse and try to get them warmed up. After a couple of hours under the fan heater they were warm enough for us to tube feed some colostrum we had milked out of Sorrel.
