Parkview Center School

Parkview Elementary School parents gathered materials and created a nature play area for students to use during recess in 2010. The surrounding community also uses the area as an alternative to the adjacent traditional playground.


  • Loose natural materials (e.g. tree cookies, small logs, natural debris)

  • Designated climbing area (e.g. trees, boulders, net)

  • A flat area or open field

  • Sit spot(s) for quiet contemplation

  • Variable terrain/topography

Installation Details

  • Cost: $50 for signs

  • Design: Parents consulted with teachers and the school principal on design and maintenance needs.
