The Miss Oklahoma Pageant was held in Tulsa for the first time since 1952.  The franchise changed hands from the First Christian Church to Jacque Talsma, a former Miss Iowa.  There were 40 contestants. Reigning Miss America, Donna Axum was in Tulsa to help crown the new Miss Oklahoma, and former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.  Miss Oklahoma was televised for the first time!
