ジュニア評価委員の募集

MIRU2022では、若手研究者が「査読者の気持ちを理解」した上で論文が書けるように、若手研究者が論文評価に加わる仕組みを導入します。論文評価の後には、同じ論文に対する他の研究者の評価レポートを匿名のまま共有します。若手研究者にとって、同じ論文に対する他の研究者の評価を知ることは、多様な価値観や様々な評価軸に触れる貴重な学びの機会です。この経験は、自らが著者として論文を書く際に、読者（査読者）の気持ちを想像できるようになるという点で役立つと考えています。
今年プログラム委員長の岩村自身の経験として、若い頃は自分が書いた論文の査読結果を見て、査読者の意図がわからず、「どうしてこの査読者はこんな事を言うんだろう」と随分悩んだことがありました。そして、一つ一つの査読コメントに真摯に答えるものの、結局それは査読者が期待した答えでは無かったなどということもありました。当時は理不尽さを感じたものですが、後々査読者を経験するようになると、「査読コメントはこう書いてあるけど、きっとこの査読者はこう思っているのだろう」と、何となくではありますが、予想できるようになってきました。人生は経験しないと分からないことが多いものですが、査読者の気持ちもまた、経験しないと分からない事の一つではないかと思っております。いずれ経験するなら、早い方がメリットがあると思い、今回の企画を思い立ちました。
この仕組みを導入するために、MIRU2022では2種類の評価委員を設けます。これらを「シニア評価委員」と「ジュニア評価委員」と呼ぶことにします。従来からの評価委員は前者であり、前述の若手研究者の評価委員は後者です。概ねの基準として、シニア評価委員は概ね大学教員レベルの能力を有する方とします。一方、ジュニア評価委員は「主著者として論文誌や国際会議の査読付論文が1本以上ある方」とします。学歴は問いませんので、大学院生でも大丈夫です！ぜひご検討ください。
MIRU2022では、ジュニア評価委員に2本を上限に論文を評価していただく予定です。また、例年優れた評価をしていただいた評価委員に賞を授与していますが、今年はシニア評価委員とジュニア評価委員に別々に賞を授与することを計画しています。というわけで、受賞のチャンスでもあります！
ジュニア評価委員には、条件を満たす方であれば、自薦、他薦を問わずなっていただけます。自薦、他薦、いずれの場合もこちらのフォームで受け付けます。締切は3月4日(金)です。
MIRU2022 introduces a new system for young researchers to participate in the evaluation of papers so that they can write their papers after "understanding the feelings of reviewers." After the paper evaluation, we will share the evaluation reports of other researchers for the same paper anonymously. For young researchers, knowing the evaluations of other researchers on the same paper is a valuable learning opportunity to come into contact with various values and evaluation axes. We believe this experience will help them imagine the readers' (and reviewers') feelings when writing a paper as an author.
As Iwamura's own experience, who serves as the program chair this year, just after he started his carrier as a researcher, he saw the peer-reviewed results of his paper. However, he could not understand the reviewers' intention. He thought that "Why does this reviewer say this?" After thinking so long, he answered every peer-reviewed comment sincerely, but in the end, it was not the answer that the reviewers expected. At that time, he felt unreasonable, but when he came to experience a reviewer later, he could get more predictable of the reviewers' feeling like "The peer-reviewed comments are written like this, but I think this reviewer thinks like this." There are many things in life that you do not understand until you experience them, and he believes that the feeling of being a reviewer is one of those things. If everyone experienced a reviewer eventually, it would be more beneficial to do it earlier, so he came up with this project.
To introduce the system, MIRU2022 will set up two types of evaluation committee members, which we call "senior evaluators" and "junior evaluators." The conventional evaluation committee is the former, and the evaluation committee of the young researchers mentioned above is the latter. As a general rule, senior evaluators should have university faculty-level abilities. On the other hand, the junior evaluator is "a person who has at least one peer-reviewed paper in a journal or international conference as the first author." Educational background does not matter, so even graduate students are okay! Please consider it.
In MIRU2022, we plan to ask each junior evaluator to evaluate up to two papers. In addition, in past years we have awarded the evaluators who have given outstanding evaluations, but this year we are planning to separately award the senior and junior evaluators. So, this is a chance to win an award!
Junior evaluators can be self-recommended or recommended by others as long as they meet the conditions. The form for both cases is here. The deadline is Friday, March 4.
