These days, it's easy to get wrapped up in the aspects of life that aren't so ideal. BUT it is so important to notice all the amazing things and people that around you (or a text message away).
Ways to incorporate mindfulness into your day:
Research shows that gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with a greater sense of happiness and well-being. Science tells us that counting our blessings increases our optimism, relieves depression, improves immune function, and lowers blood pressure. It also strengthens our relationships with those around us.
SAVORING is defined as "the use of thoughts and actions to increase the intensity, duration, and appreciation of positive experiences and emotions."
SO- when you are experiencing something that is bringing you joy, SAVOR it.
Savoring enhances the positive experiences in your life.
Ex: You're eating a really good slice of pizza. Savor that pizza. Enjoy and be grateful for that pizza. Pay attention to every bite, don't text or snapchat your pizza. Take in the present experience.
When you are taking part in gratitude exercises, make sure to incorporate savoring.
Ex: If you are writing a gratitude letter to thank a teacher for helping you in class, reflect back to the how you felt in the moment when she was actually helping you. Thinking about the details of the moment increases your gratitude and allows you to re-feel those positive emotions.
