Cybersecurity is basically the digital version of your diary … except instead of your annoying brother trying to guess your hiding spot, its people trying to obtain your passwords, emails, and personal information. For this assignment, I looked at real recent cybersecurity incidents to understand how cyber attacks actually happen in everyday life. One thing I quickly realized is that many cyber attacks are not just about technology, they are about psychology. Hackers often rely on human mistakes, urgency, or trust to gain access to information. The following articles show how both large companies and regular people can become targets, which makes cybersecurity something everyone should understand

Instead of hacking systems directly, some attackers manipulate people by pretending to be someone they trust. This method, known as social engineering, shows that sometimes the biggest security risk is human trust.
Scammers are now using AI to literally pretend to be people you know… which is honestly terrifying. Criminals can clone voices from social media videos and use them to call victims pretending to be family members, bosses, or even government officials. These scams often create urgency, like pretending a loved one is in danger, to pressure people into sending money or sharing personal information quickly. Because the voices sound realistic and messages sound natural, it is becoming harder to tell what is real and what is fake. Experts recommend always verifying emergencies directly with the person and never sending sensitive information just because someone sounds convincing. Basically… just because it sounds like your mom doesn’t mean it’s actually your mom.

Upon completing this training i found a few tips I wanna share so you too could be equipped to handle potential attacks.
💚Strong Passwords: " Name123! " Is not a strong password (yes even after adding the !) think bigger.
💚 Hackers dont only hack computers: they hack accounts, phones, cameras and even our emotions to manipulate and get sensitive infomation.
💚Think before you Link: Verify before reply. not all links are from a reputable safe source.
💚Dont fake familiarity: Just because it looks like mom is calling/texting dont always mean its mom
💚 Know the red flags: Urgency in response, unexpected messages, requesting personal info, Bad Grammer, Weird unfammiliar URLs.
No method is 100% fullproof against cyber attack but it all boils down to how we can always stay alert and cautious when using the web. Through both the articles and the cybersecurity training, I learned that cyber threats are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated. I previously thought cyber attacks mostly involved hacking computers, but I now understand that many attacks rely on manipulating people through fear, urgency, or trust. Learning about phishing, ransomware, and social engineering helped me better understand how easily personal information can be exposed if people are not cautious. This training reinforced the importance of strong passwords, verifying suspicious communication, and being mindful of my digital footprint.
