Unit 1 showed the basics of digital literacy and helped me better understand how technology and the internet really is ... FOREVER (cue ominous music).
More importantly it showed me how technology, the internet and information systems work together. Being " good with computers" isn't just about using it, it's about understanding how information is created, shared and protected

During this unit i found interest in digital literacy and digital footprints. learning about these topics are so important especially for younger kids navigating the internet learning to be safe and understanding the importance of user safety
Digital literacy means understanding how to find, use, evaluate, and share information online in a smart way. It is more than just knowing how to use a computer or scroll TikTok for 3 hours (no judgment i fall victim to doom scrolling as well). It is about knowing what is real, what is fake, what is safe, and what is better left unposted.
Think of digital literacy as knowing how to survive the internet without embarrassing yourself… or accidentally signing up for 500 spam emails unbeknownst to you.
What is a digital Footprint ??? Your digital footprint is basically a trail of breadcrumbs you leave all over the internet... except instead of bread, its likes, comments on social media, post, random links you forgot you even clicked on, search query and more
Since the spelling of my first name is very original, I learned to be extra careful with my public activity through the web. If just searching my name pinged so man results DIRECTLY related to me, i fear what it would look like if i wasnt taught about digital footrprint as a child ( watched many crime tvs shows ).As far as worry.. i will be just fine i am not too private but as a viewer take a moment to check your digital footprint if privacy is a concern of yours
Personal Activity: many people don't know how much every click, search and location history these apps track as long as you allow it. Reviewing digital footprints this unit inspired me to do some cleanup on my socials and keep a better eye on my internet history
STOP AND ASK
Should I post this?
Is this information reliable?
Would I be okay with a future employer seeing this?
Is this helping my online image or hurting it?
Being digitally literate helps you
spot fake information before you accidentally believe it
protect your privacy and personal information
communicate professionally online
avoid digital drama that lives on FOREVER
make smart decisions about what you post, like, or share
This unit made me realize that being online is not as temporary as it feels. The internet remembers things even when we forget. Learning about digital literacy and digital footprints reminded me that I have more control than I thought over how I present myself online.
Even small actions like searching something, liking a post, or commenting can become part of a bigger picture of who I am on the internet.
Moving forward, I want my digital footprint to reflect the best version of me:
responsible, thoughtful, and aware of how technology impacts my life.
At the end of the day, the goal is not to be scared of the internet… just smart enough to use it in a way that benefits me instead of hurts me.
Because your digital footprint may be invisible… but it definitely is not imaginary always remember that
