For this project I explored different types of digital media and learned how they are created and shared ethically online. Digital media is everywhere, videos, pics, audio and even animations, but I never really thought about file type of licensing rules when using digital content online. This project helped me understand media is formatted and how to properly give credit where its due.

Person Using Laptop: This image is an example of a JPG file, which is one of the most common formats used for digital photos. thes files are popular because they remain good quality while also keeping the file size smaller, making them easy to upload and share online. I found this image on Unsplash, which is a free media website that allows images to be used for educational purposes. After double checong licesning I chose this image because it represents digital work and technology, which goes well with the topic of digital media. plus it fits my cute them ;)

This media is an example of a GIF (aka Animation), a type of animation made from multiple images that play in a loop to create motion. GIFs are commonly used online to express emotions, reactions, or humor. I found this GIF on Giphy by searching for a typing animation. I chose this GIF because it adds personality to my page while still staying with my theme. giphy has millions of free to use animation that are not only hilarious and convenient for a reaction with friends but also apart of digital media.Β

This media is an example of digital video, which combines both audio and visual elements. Videos are widely used online to explain information in an engaging and easy to understand way. I found this video on YouTube by searching for information about Creative Commons licenses. I chose this video because it directly relates to this assignment and explains how media can be shared legally and ethically online. This video is licensed under Creative Commons, which allows others to use and share the content for noncommercial purposes as long as credit is given.
Side note : this is a video of the audio, i embeded the original due to uplod issues to the drive
This media is an example of an MP3 audio file, which is one of the most common formats used for digital sound. MP3 files compress audio so the file size is smaller while still maintaining good sound quality. I found this audio on Pixabay, which provides free media that can be used for educational purposes. I chose this sound because i love rain and nature and i feel this audio represent my energy and the overall zen aestheic of my portfolio.Β Audio is an important part of digital media and can help enhance the userβs experience when viewing content online.
This image is an example of original digital media that I created myself using my iPhone camera. Digital photos are commonly saved as JPG files and are widely used online. I chose to take a picture of Cats because it fits the fun, calm, cutesy aesthetic theme of my page. Creating my own media helped me better understand how digital content is produced and shared and how to license any work i would want credit for. I wouldn't want to post a pic of my cats online and then Meow Mix decides to use that image without paying or crediting me. π±
Before this project, I honestly didnβt realize how many different types of digital media there are or that each one has its own specific file format. I also used to think that if something popped up on Google, it was basically free to use, but that is definitely not always true. Learning about Creative Commons made me realize that creators can choose how their work is shared, and that we should always check the license before using something online. It also showed me that if I ever create something (or if my cats picture is posted), I can license my own work too and decide how others ( meow mix, purina, whoever decides to sponsor me and my cats, im not picky)Β are allowed to use it. So if there is one takeaway, it is that just because something is easy to access online does not mean it is free to use, and giving credit is an important way to respect the person who created it.
