Concentration #2

For my second concentration piece, I once again started with a wire ‘skeleton’ of a figure, this time in a more relaxed position on his back, knees bent and arms bent behind his head. I felt this one embodied more of how I actually feel when surrounded by nature and wanted that content feeling to really show through. The process of creation was mostly identical to the last, but the base was a much larger component and therefore took a lot more effort than that of the first concentration piece, but well worth the time. From the start, I really wanted to place this figure in a bed of grass, that not only gave the appearance of a field, but was also something that could be touched and would still feel somewhat like grass. It took a lot of brainstorming and trial runs to find the perfect medium and form to reach this point, but after many tries, I finally found the perfect way to create grass that looked and felt right. After cutting long strips of grass for a long period and testing how it looked, I realized they were all far too tall to display the figure in the right way, so I made tiny little strips of short grass using basic construction paper and basically created a frame around the figure in this and faded out so it looked more natural. This formed the perfect base for this piece and the final product came out exactly how I wanted it to, especially since this gave the perfect feeling of running your fingers over grass.
