beautiful oops

The subject of my beautiful oops piece is this man, walking around his grungy apartment and is hit in the head with some fallen object, which spills some liquid over his head and face; that being the original ink spill, starting the assignment. I began with an idea, conjured from the original shape of the ink spill, but when it came down to beginning, that idea didn’t quite take shape. Because I normally produce works of people, in some strange style, and because the splotch looked like it was spilling down something, I made it an overweight, nearly naked man, stumbling around after being blinded by this strange spilt matter. I wanted to keep up with the weirdness of the man and make the background setting also very odd and funny as well as fit a situation where a man would be walking around in his underwear. This was the first piece I really tried to develop the background instead of taking the easy way out and it actually came together pretty well. I tried my best to use minimalistic, but balanced color in very specific areas without drawing too much attention away from the guy, although the one thing about this piece that bothers me is the coloring of the cactus on the fridge. I wish I used a different texture or technique with that because I think it looks very scribbled and out of place with the rest of the piece. Otherwise, I was pretty happy with the way this piece turned out.
